Dear Parents, Parish & Community

THANK YOU:

Thank you to all the parents that have been parent helping at school.  It’s great to see parents coming along and taking part in their child’s education.  I know the staff really appreciate your help and support.

We are so lucky to be a part of such a supportive school community.  I really enjoy the large variety of help and support we receive from all our families.  Thank you for this, it certainly helps in making St Joseph’s a great place to be and allows us as teachers to achieve our goals with your children.

Lunch Orders will need to be in an envelope in the following format:

Name: _________________

Room: __________

Order: _________________

             _________________

Total:    $                 Change required: $

Please try to include the EXACT money when you can.

When teachers have to process lunch orders in class it becomes an absolute nightmare if children are just given money and free range on ordering.  PLEASE DO YOUR BIT TO HELP US OUT.

Library:

Have you considered donating a book, or cash amount, which would be spent on much loved and well read books, that need replacing.

The benefits of new and appealing books for the children, plays a major part in their enthusiasm to read.

Your family name will be inscribed on the inside of each book donated, for readers to see in years to come.

If you are interested in donating to our library, contact Tracey Feaver for a list of replacements, or a financial donation so the appropriate books can be ordered at much lower price through our school supplier.

Or maybe consider a 1 year magazine subscription to a school age targeted magazine?

TEAM SPIRIT ADDS TO SCHOOL SPORTING SUCCESS

St Joseph’s rugby team ended a 31-year drought last week when it beat Norfolk 20-19 to win the McLeod Shield.  The shield, first played for in 1920, is contested by nine schools whose rolls are under 150.

Coach Steve Fleming said the boys played as a team and showed a lot of spirit.  "Our kids are small compared to the other teams”. "It wasn't an easy game to win," he said.

The team is usually made up of Year 7 and 8 students but because of the small size of the school, Year 6 students were called in to make up the numbers.  Principal Dee Luckin said it was important the likes of the McLeod Shield was still around and being contested.  "People have forgotten about shields like this, but they still mean a lot, especially for small schools like this," he said.  "For these kids to win a final and trophy is something they'll remember forever."  And the school had more sporting success yesterday.

It won a second shield for victories over Auroa at soccer, netball and rugby.

The Lynskey Dravitski Shield used to be contested by Auroa and Pihama schools, but St Joseph's Primary School took Pihama's place when the school closed five years ago.  "We're keeping it alive and the school is moving forward," Mr Luckin said.

The St Joseph's rugby team comprised James Aitken (captain), Jevan Baldwin, Corban Hill, Jordan Hooper, Tyler McCarthy, Adrian Pape, Jacob Pratt, Hayden Walkington, Kallum Whitehead, Blayde Crawford, Beauden Fleming, Shan Hickey, Matthew Hooper, Mason Kapo, Adam Karam, Daniel Mullin, Zachary Russell and Cjahad Thomas-Moore.
